Laurent Clow was born on May 23, 1982; three months later, his parents Victor and Susan adopted him. He was raised in Auburn, N.H., where he attended elementary school and worked as a volunteer at the town library. During his high school years at Pinkerton Academy in Derry, N.H., Laurent got his first taste of journalism as editor of the school newspaper, The Kaleidoscope. In the fall of 2000, he began his college career at William Paterson University in Wayne, N.J. He started work at The Beacon, an independent student newspaper, right away. In May of 2001, he took over as editor of The Beacon after the previous editor was allegedly found to have embezzled thousands of dollars from the newspaper’s account. Laurent served as editor for three years, rebuilding the newspaper and re-establishing its credibility. During that time, Laurent also worked as a summer intern for HippoPress Manchester, an alternative weekly paper located in Manchester, N.H. In 2003, he won two awards from the New Hampshire Press Association for his work at Hippo. Laurent graduated from William Paterson University in May of 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in English with a concentration in writing. He likes dogs, bad horror movies, Frank Sinatra and pecan pie. He plans to pursue a career in journalism. |
