 Welcome
Points South is the publication of The Poynter Institute's annual summer program for college graduates. For six weeks, these 32 fellows find stories about the city of St. Petersburg and tell them, using words and images. In daily seminars along the way, they learn about the ethics and practice of journalism from Poynter faculty, award-winning journalism professionals, and one another. Their work appears weekly on this website.

In this final edition of Points South, the 32 summer fellows focus on their own experiences through personal reflection and visual storytelling. The writers whose essays appear here have opted to include their writings for publication on the website. These projects and those of the visual journalists below embody Poynter's mission: To attract and develop journalists able to practice their craft and, perhaps most important, to reflect on how and why they do it.
